What is mental toughness and how does it create happiness?
Mental toughness is a set of positive attributes that helps you cope with difficult situations. It's the ability to resist, manage and overcome doubts, worries, circumstances that prevent you from succeeding.
Every single person should want to develop mental toughness! These are all attributes you can use in every area of your life. As a parent, as a business person, in your job or career, and as an athlete, you need to develop mental toughness but how do you do it?
The number one way to cultivating mental toughness is to put yourself in uncomfortable situations. By intentionally being uncomfortable you will develop self-discipline, grit, confidence. Think about a time you did something hard, perhaps you even thought about quitting but you pushed through. Those are the moments you felt the best about yourself, right after you did something really hard.
When you finished a marathon despite the grueling training and fear of not finishing it.
When you earned your license or graduated college.
When you severed a toxic relationship that you loved but that was unhealthy for you.
When you accomplished a milestone in your weight loss goals.
Every time you did something hard, even though you struggled, even though it sucked when you completed it, you felt UNSTOPPABLE.
Your level of happiness is tied in direct proportion to how much discipline you are currently exercising.
So we encourage you to get getting outside your comfort zone. Do things that challenge you and will take discipline, because at the end of the day you will go to bed satisfied and content that you are getting better and mentally tough every single day.
